About Me

Hello! My name is Karin Nelson. I was born and raised in Mesa Arizona, and recently obtained my bachelor's degree in music education from Utah State University. Throughout my journey at Utah State, I have become certified to teach secondary band, orchestra, and choir. I have also become skilled at teaching private music lessons. I specialize in choral/solo vocal music and the voice, with extensive knowledge in vocal anatomy and technique.

Music has always been my passion, from participating in musical ensembles since I was very young, to finding myself in mentor positions throughout my education.

During my time at Utah State University, I have become a choice performer by directors around the valley. I was sought out by Dr. Craig Jessop to perform with the American Festival Chorus in their performances of Bach's "St. John's Passion" and Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem." I pride myself in being a multifaceted musician. Along with my extensive training and experience in classical settings, I have become a staple Jazz soloist in the Utah State Chamber Singers, and performed a lead musical theatre role in USU's Anastasia. I also took 6 years of private piano lessons, as well as 10 years of private vocal lessons.

I have extensive experience with children. I have performed with the USU Opera Outreach Quartet, a select quartet of students hand-picked by the Utah State Music Faculty to represent the USU music program at high schools around the western United States. In addition, I volunteered every week at Logan High School in Logan Utah for a year, where I gain valuable experience teaching high school students and conducting choral pieces. I also teach voice lessons at the Logan Music Academy, and enjoy teaching music to children, teens, and adults. Most recently, I completed my student teaching at Green Canyon High School in North Logan Utah.

I pride myself in continuing to further my education and becoming a life-long learner. I attend the UMEA (Utah Music Educators Association) conference each year in St. George. I have attended for the past two years, and I look forward to attending future AMEA conferences in Arizona.

In the future, I hope to continue to teach music to both children teens, and adults alike, sharing my passion and knowledge with future generations. I will continue to perform and teach music for the rest of my life, and I have made that sentiment my mission.

In addition to my love for music, I love baking sweet treats that I share with my family and friends, crocheting blankets, plushies, and my own clothing, and visiting farmers markets on bright Saturday mornings.

By my side, I have an amazing husband and a beautiful golden retriever named Digby.
